Dr. Blackwelder's grandparents-Rev. & Mrs. S.H. Pendley. Rev. Pendley pastored both Bush Arbor Baptist Church & Piedmont First Baptist. He was pastor of Piedmont First Baptist from 1930-1934. during which time Dr. Blackwelder's father, Edward M. Blackwelder, graduated from Piedmont High School as a star football player.
